This Little Piggy Had X-rays

The sad-looking picture you’re about to see is our Potbellied sow Voo on the examination table at the Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Oregon State. Voo’s had some trouble with her back legs, so we took her in to find out what was going on. The official diagnosis is Bilateral Stifle Osteoarthritis. AKA, knee arthritis.

This condition is somewhat common in Potbellied pigs. So there’s a chance that Voo’ brother Doo will come down with it, too. Starting today, we’re giving both pigs glucosamine pills and monthly shots are in their future.

Voo handled the exam like a real pro. She weighs 80 pounds, which is a little on the light side, but that’s good because of her knees.

The hospital staff was great to her, and when they discovered they had a celebrity pig in their facility, she was the talk of the hospital.

It also a special day for Voo. After she woke up from the exam we gave her a cupcake for breakfast.
