Hop Harvest Begins at Rogue Farms

Our 8th year of harvesting our own hops is now underway at Rogue Farm in Independence, Oregon, and we’re not the only ones excited.

We’ve been watching the hops and deer grow all summer.

 

 

 

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be harvesting 8 of our 10 varieties of our proprietary hops. How do we do it?

Top Cutter 2

A top cutter and bottom cutter release the 100-150 lbs bines from the trellis.

The bines are driven over to the picker, where the cones are stripped away.

Kiln Hops Aug 2015 11

The cones are sorted and distributed in the kiln.

Full Kiln

In the kiln, the hops are dried at 155 degrees for 6-8 hours.

Full Cooler

They are piled in the cooler for 24 hours.

Finally, the hops are baled and driven 77-miles to the Rogue Brewery in Newport, Oregon.

From ground to glass, the journey for these hops is just beginning.

Join us at Rogue Farms to see, taste, feel and smell the Revolution for yourself. Our tasting room is open from 11-8pm during harvest and tours are given at 1pm & 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

    Fascinating! How tall are the trellis’? I had no idea what hops looks like or how it was harvested. This little video gives me a whole new appreciation for beer/ale. Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Pat,
      The trellis poles are 21′ tall, they go 3′ underground. It’s a pretty incredible process. We’d love to show you in person!
